Student ministry

The Ozark Baptist Student Ministry exists to impact the generation of students in 6th-12th grades and their parents with love for God and others by creating environments for them to make the decision to live as devoted followers of Christ.

We do this by:

  • Being relational – by having our adult small group leaders model intentional, assessable, transparent and authentic leadership in order to gain students’ trust to influence them towards becoming more like Christ.
  • Being relevant and real - teaching Biblically - by challenging students to make choices Biblically - living out their faith where they are planted.
  • Create strong servant leaders - by creating opportunities to serve others.
  • Empowering parents - by educating and supporting their primary spiritual role in the life of their student.

Sunday School
Our small group ministry for students takes place on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am. We begin each Sunday in the High School Ministries House (located next to the Faith Factory) for morning snacks and hang out time. We then go to the Faith Factory and divide into our age-specific classes for Sunday school. There students can ask questions, grow closer to Jesus, and build better relationships with other students. It’s about living life alongside your favorite people.

Our main weekly meeting takes place on Wednesday nights. We have all 6th-12th graders meet in the Faith Faftory. During this time we unite in worship, study Scripture together and often break into smaller groups.

Sunday Nights and Missions
Our Sunday nights are atypical. We usually meet in the Faith Factory from 4:30-6pm to go deeper into our Bible studies.

Twice a year we set aside time to get away from the routine and do something bigger. We have experienced Centrifuge, Mission-Serve, Xtreme-Winter conferences, ski-trips, Disney, and Universal Studios together! One thing is for sure--we always strive to get fed spiritually and serve others while doing it!

PARENTS, we need your help to continue to spiritually empower your son and/or daughter. Some of the things your student needs YOU to do to help form them spiritually are:

  • Recognize that God intended YOU to be your student's PRIMARY spiritual influence. Talk to your student about their spiritual walk, pray with them, and make sure you're teaching them yourself.
  • Bring them to church. Students need positive peer influences, and this is the best place for them to develop those friendships.
  • Help them set correct priorities. If you don't make your church life and your walk with Christ a priority, will your student? Model the life you want them to live, and encourage them to make Christ the most important aspect of life.
  • Get involved in our Student Ministry! One of the best ways to ensure that your student becomes active in a healthy Christian environment is to be a part of one yourself! Click the GET INVOLVED tab below to determine how God may be leading you to give direction to our youth.

ADULTS who are not parents of a student can also get involved in helping our young people maximize their effectiveness in serving Christ. Please click the Get Involved tab below to determine where God may be leading you to give guidance to our students.

We've created three different avenues of opportunity that ADULTS can take in order to help our students maximize their impact in serving Christ.

/ Chaperone Team
Hebrews 10:25-26 says "...spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another."
In other words, we need to be spending enough time with each other to be able to speak into one another's life. Our heart in the Student Ministry here at Ozark Baptist is to counteract negative peer pressure by sponsoring enough activities to allow our student ministry to be a student's primary group of friends. However, in order to accomplish that goal, we need a large number of adult chaperones to adequately supervise all of our activities. If this need strikes at your heart, please consider serving on the Sign-In or the Chaperone Team.

Facilitate Student Ministry Teams
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant..."
Jesus revolutionized what greatness really means with this one short sentence. We recognize that Christian service is vital to the spiritual health and development of every believer, and so we have created several different ministry teams within the student ministry. These teams give the students opportunities to serve, teach them life skills and responsibility, and give them more ownership of the activities that they take part in. If you are gifted in administration and service, please see the areas of service that fall into this category.

Leading/Teaching Student Small Groups
"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17).
The imagery of one piece of iron sharpening another piece doesn't bring to mind a painless interaction. The two pieces must grind against each other repeatedly, filing off imperfections that dull the blade. In this avenue of ministry, we ask adults to lead small groups in which they are responsible for discipling students. This includes facilitating discussion, creating an atmosphere of safety and accountability within the small group, and modeling a healthy Christian lifestyle. If this seems like an area of ministry that God may be calling you to, please sign up for helping with our Student Ministry Small Groups.

We want to help you identify your gifts, and equip, encourage and support you as we work together to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Read through the descriptions below and determine where God may be leading you to give guidance to our youth.

Audio/Video Team - Weekly
This group presents announcements and audio/video in a creative way (multi-media, etc.).

Chaperone Team - Rotation
This is a group of individuals who know they can't make it to ALL the student functions, but love to help out when they can. Whenever an event is scheduled, you will be emailed to see if you are available for that specific event.

/ Hall Monitor Team - Monthly or Bi-monthly
This is a team comprised only of adults who welcome students on Wednesday, and help get them signed in and settled down for worship. Team members also keep an eye on the hallways and parking lots and gently remind students to be respectful during worship and the message.

In-Reach Team - Weekly or Bi-weekly
Outgoing, friendly individuals who will seek out and greet guests, sit with them, make them feel welcome, and follow up with them in the weeks after their visit.

Prayer Team - Weekly
Mature, dedicated, committed individuals who will pray before the Sunday and Wednesday night student services.

Worship Team - Weekly on Sundays and Wednesdays
Talented musicians with the gift of leadership and mentoring to instruct and disciple the student worship team.
